Bengaluru is set to get South Asia's tallest building, a skydeck, at a cost of ₹ 500 crore. The state cabinet gave its nod earlier this week. The project, which will offer a 360-degree view of the city, is the brainchild of DCM DK Shivakumar. Here's a look at the key features of the Bengaluru Skydeck compared with other observation decks in India and around the world.
The Bengaluru Skydeck will be built on Bengaluru's NICE Road. It will have world-class amenities for tourists, and there will also be metro connectivity so that people do not face any inconvenience in reaching the place.
Height and other key features
The Bengaluru Skydeck will be around 250 meters tall, making it the tallest structure in the city. The CNTC Presidential Tower, currently believed to be the tallest building in the city, is estimated to be over 160 meters tall. For instance, the Qutub Minar in the national capital stands at 73 meters. So, the Bengaluru Skydeck will be more than three times the height of the famous monument.
Why NICE Road?
DK Shivakumar had said that 25 acres of land is required for the project. Initially, land near Kommaghatta and Bangalore University campus was finalized. However, there was opposition to this as it would cause problems for the students. After that, 10 places in the city were shortlisted. Finally, after discussions with the Central Civil Aviation Authority, NICE Road was chosen as the final location.
'Tallest' structure in South Asia
Once built, the Bengaluru Skydeck, at around 250 meters, will be the tallest structure in South Asia. It is expected to attract a large number of tourists in the coming days, which will boost Karnataka tourism.
Other observation decks in India
There are several observation decks in the country, including the Fateh Burj at Chappar Chiri in the SAS Nagar district of Punjab and the OP Jindal Knowledge Center in Hisar district of Haryana.
World's tallest observation deck
There are many tall skyscrapers around the world that have special viewing platforms called observation decks. These places are open to the public and give them a panoramic view of the cities. At 1,821 feet above ground level, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai has the world's tallest observation deck.
