Since it the season of mango fruit, a wide variety of mangoes can be found in the market. This beloved summer fruit is especially enjoyed from May to July. You must have made mango pickle several times, today we’ll share a recipe for making delicious mango jam using just 1 kilogram of mangoes. 

Ingredients you need:

•    1 kilogram of ripe mangoes
•    2 cups of sugar
•    2 tablespoons of lemon juice
•    1 packet of fruit pectin (optional). Pectin is a substance which is used as a thickener in cooking and baking. 

Follow these instructions:

Step 1- Wash the mangoes and boil them in a pot full of water. 

Step 2- After boiling, peel the mangoes and cut them into small pieces. 

Step 3- Use a potato masher or a blender to mash the mangoes.

Step 4- In a large pot, add sugar and lemon juice to the mango pulp. 

Step 5- Mix everything well and let the sugar dissolve completely.

Step 6- If you’re using pectin, add it to the mixture at this point. 

Step 7- Then, bring the mixture to a boil while stirring frequently. 

Step 8- Reduce the heat to low and let is simmer until the mixture thickens. Keep stirring occasionally and make sure the mixture does not start burning. This process will typically take around 20-30 minutes.

Step 9- To check if the jam is ready, place a small amount of the mixture on a cold plate and allow it to cool. Then, press it with your finger. If it wrinkles, it’s ready. If not, continue cooking for a bit longer. 

Step 10- Once the jam is ready, let it cool. 

Step 11- Store it in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. 

The jam is ready! You can use it as a spread on bread for breakfasts or light evening snack.
