With the festival of Holi around the corner, you must be busy preparing your menu for the celebrations. As we begin to immerse ourselves in the colours and joy of Holi, why not add an extra touch of delight with a crispy and crunchy snack. Let’s explore the recipe of making Chakli at home in a few simple steps.
Ingredients you are going to need
• 2 cups rice flour
• ¼ cup urad dal flour
• 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
• 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
• 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds
• 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
• Salt to taste
• Water, as needed
• Oil for frying
Follow these steps
Step 1: Start by dry roasting the urad dal flour in a pan over low heat until it turns light golden-brown colour. Once done, remove it from the heat, transfer the contents in a bowl and allow it to cool.
Step 2: Take a bowl and add rice flour, urad dal flour, cumin, sesame seeds, celery, and salt, and mix everything thoroughly. Next, proceed to add butter or ghee into the flour mixture. Keep mixing it until it starts resembling breadcrumbs.
Step 3: Add little water into the flour mixture and knead it until it becomes smooth. Make sure to maintain a smooth texture of the dough, it should not be too soft or hard.
Step 4: For making chakli, you will need a chakli maker. Lightly grease the chakli maker. Take a portion of the dough and place it inside the chakli maker. Spiral-shaped chaklis can be made by pressing the dough through the mold.
Step 5: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Carefully add a few chaklis at a time and fry them until they turn golden brown and become crisp. Once nicely fried, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper napkin to absorb any excess oil.
Step 6: Once the chakli has cooled, store it in an airtight container. Enjoy it as a delightful tea or coffee snack in the evenings. These snacks are also a great addition to your Holi menu.
