The biopic on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was officially announced, the title of which was revealed on September 21. The poster of the film titled The Iron Lady was unveiled by ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss and it will be directed by Priyadarshan. 

However, it is not clear yet as to who would play the role of Jayalalithaa. Reports indicate that Tamil actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has been signed to play the lead role in the movie. 

But, the actress has denied any such developments and said that she would love to play that role. 

"Thank you all for the wishes.. but NOTHING has been finalised regarding #THEIRONLADY with @priyadhaarshini ... when and if we do finalise things I will be the first to let u all know.. thank you .. as I'm travelling abroad I'm not able to attend most of the media calls..apologies [sic],"  Varalaxmi tweeted.

Another big name doing the rounds is Malayalam actress Nithya Menen, but the piece of information is yet to be confirmed officially. 

The rumours spread because a few days ago, Priyadarshan retweet suggested that Nithya Menen has been signed to play the titular role. Hence, many thought Nithya Menen is cast in The Iron Lady.

The first look of The Iron Lady, which comes with a caption 'A Story of Revolutionary Leader', was released by filmmaker AR Murugadoss. "Extremely happy and excited to launch the Title poster of #Jayalalithaabiopic #THEIRONLADY I wish @priyadhaarshini @varusarath and team for a grand success [sic]," the director wrote.

The Iron Lady is likely to hit the floors soon, and the makers are expected to reveal the cast and crew at the muhurat.

Another biopic on J Jayalalithaa is already in the making and Tamil director AL Vijay is helming the project, funded by Vishnu Induri of Vibri Media. 

The biopic on Jayalalithaa is one of the most-awaited movies for many reasons. Audiences want to see Jayalalithaa’s journey from the 70mm screen to the political screen of Tamil Nadu.
