Perry had recently made a successful return to the TV drama genre with a regular role on Riverdale where he played Fred Andrews, the father of the show's lead Archie Andrews, played by KJ Apa.
Los Angeles: Best known for his role as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210 and recently, as Fred Andrews in the mega-hit show Riverdale, actor Luke Perry passed away after suffering a major stroke last week.
The 52-year-old actor is survived by his daughter Sophie and his son Jack, a professional wrestler who goes by the ring name 'Jungle Boy' Nate Coy.
Last week, Perry was admitted to a hospital for "observation". According to TMZ, paramedics responded to a call at the star's home in Sherman Oaks, California, on February 27 morning.
"[Perry] was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends," his rep said in a statement.
"The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time," the statement further read.
Meanwhile, fans and friends have taken to social media to mourn the loss of the actor with heartfelt messages.
