Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with veteran actress Vyjayanthimala in Chennai, commemorating her recent Padma Vibhushan award, the second-highest civilian honor in India. The meeting, which took place on Monday, March 4, showcased the Prime Minister's acknowledgment of Vyjayanthimala's remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi expressed his admiration for the actress, highlighting her distinguished career and the nationwide recognition she has garnered for her exceptional achievements in the film industry. He shared photos of their encounter on social media, underscoring Vyjayanthimala's recent accolade.

Vyjayanthimala, a celebrated actress and accomplished dancer at the age of 90, was named among the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan earlier this year, as announced by the national government. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, she was one of eight individuals from the state to receive Padma awards in 2024, recognized for her profound impact on the world of art.

This year's Padma awards list comprises five Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 110 Padma Shri recipients, with 30 of the awardees being women. Vyjayanthimala's recognition extends beyond her acting prowess, encompassing her mastery of classical dance, particularly Bharathanatyam.

Prime Minister Modi's visit to Chennai was part of his two-day tour of Tamil Nadu and Telangana, during which he also visited a significant operation at the state's nuclear power facility. Notably, he witnessed the commencement of core loading at the country's indigenous Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) in Kalpakkam, situated approximately 60 kilometers from Chennai. The 500 MWe fast breeder reactor was developed by Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited.

Accompanying Prime Minister Modi during his visit was National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, among other officials. The Prime Minister later addressed a public gathering in Chennai, further underscoring the significance of his visit to the region.
