One of the questions to a contestant in KBC 11 show stated Aurangazeb as Muslim emperor, whereas one of the options to the question named Shivaji without any honorific. This enraged the Hindu audience in India, who trended #BoycottKBC
Mumbai: Currently, #BoycottKBC is trending on Twitter, following the telecast of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) show on Thursday.
In Thursday's show, Amitabh Bachchan asked a contestant a question on Indian history. The question read: "Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?"
The four answers suggested for the question were: "Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Shivaji."
This enraged the people of Mumbai, who took to social media to slam Sony channel, KBC show and Amitabh Bachchan claiming they have insulted the Maratha ruler Shivaji.
The netizens lashed out stating while Aurangazeb was addressed as Mughal emperor (Mughal Samrat in Hindi), Shivaji was not addressed with any honorific.
People had demanded an apology from the channel as well as from Big B.
People wrote on Twitter: "First take care of people who killed Shiva Ji still living in Maharashtra and they are very proud of it!!"
"@SonyTV you should be ashamed. It is "Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj". @mnsadhikrut @RajThackeray is there any action expected from you????"
Kritika Khatri: "#Boycott_KBC_SonyTv coz @SonyTV is trying to malign the image of the #Chatrapati #Shivaji by calling him 'Shivaji'! Whereas barbaric invader #Aurangzeb called as 'Mughal Samrat'!"
Sony TV has issued an apology on social media. The channel tweeted: "There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday's KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11."
