To support his family, Kapil worked at a PCO booth, earning just ₹500 a month. Despite the challenges, he never abandoned his passion for comedy. While juggling work, he enrolled in college and began performing in theatre, showcasing his talent for mimicking actors since childhood. Alongside his PCO job, he also worked in a cloth mill.

Determined to pursue his dreams, Kapil moved to Mumbai, where his hard work paid off when he got a chance to compete in "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3" in 2007. His unique brand of comedy quickly won over audiences, and since then, he has never looked back.

Sister's marriage

Kapil once shared that after winning "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3," he received a prize of ₹10 lakh, which he used to help fund his sister's wedding. In an interview, he recounted, "I got ₹10 lakh. With that money, I got my sister engaged. Her mother-in-law wanted a ring ceremony, but we only had ₹6 lakh left after spending ₹3.5 lakh on my father's medical treatment. This left us with just ₹2.5 lakh for the wedding. So, when I won the ₹10 lakh prize, I called my sister and told her to go buy a ring for herself. After that, I worked on several shows and eventually earned ₹30 lakh, which allowed me to give her a proper wedding."

In 2015, Kapil made his acting debut in the Bollywood film 'Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon.' He has since appeared in several other films, including 'Crew' (2024), 'Tubelight' (2017), 'ABCD 2' (2015), 'Son of Manjeet Singh' (2018), and 'Firangi' (2017) etc. In 2022, he starred in the drama film 'Zwigato' directed by Nandita Das. The film was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival 2022, and Kapil’s performance received widespread acclaim, further showcasing his versatility as an actor.
