Well-known Bengali actor Joy Mukherjee, who was last seen in Rabi Kinagi's Ami Je Ke Tomar, is now grabbing headlines as he was arrested for allegedly assaulting fellow actress Sayantika Banerjee and her brother. However, he is now out on bail after submitting a personal bond of Rs 500.

According to media reports, Joy Mukherjee was actress Sayantika Banerjee's ex-boyfriend. On Friday night (6 July), when he was returning back from the gym, he stopped her car near Southern Avenue cross in Kolkata and started abusing her. Joy dragged the actress out of the car and allegedly assaulted her. Sayantika’s brother Amit was reportedly present inside the vehicle. When Amit tried to intervene, Joy allegedly abused him. Sayantika also alleged that Joy broke the handle of her car.

The same day, Sayantika’s father filed a complaint at Tollygunge Police Station, based on which, Joy was arrested and produced before a court near Alipore area. The police also seized his car.

Reports also say that the actor has been charged under IPC sections 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

On the other hand, sources from Joy’s family say that both had purchased a flat in South Kolkata, for which each were supposed to pay Rs 30 lakh. As the actress just paid Rs 5 lakh, this led to an alleged dispute between the two actors.

Further investigation is on and the Kolkata police are looking into the CCTV footage of the area and are also investigating whether Joy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

According to reports, Joy and Sayantika were in a live-in relationship for nine long years and are believed to have ended their affair on a bitter note.
