Reliance Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, has been ruling the telecom industry in India with its expansive 4G services. Now, an old player, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has entered the ring with a massive Rs 15,000 crore deal with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to deploy 4G network solutions.

This move aims to provide high-speed internet to over 1000 villages, challenging Jio's dominance.

The partnership between TCS and BSNL seeks to establish a robust 4G communication network across the nation. TCS, in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), will set up large data centers at 38 locations within BSNL premises. These data centers will play a crucial role in supporting the 4G infrastructure and ensuring smooth operation and maintenance of the network.

The push towards 4G networks is gaining momentum as telecom companies advocate for the phasing out of 2G and 3G services. In response to a consultation paper issued by TRAI, Jio has recently stressed the importance of a transparent policy and roadmap for the full cessation of 2G and 3G networks. Vodafone Idea (VI) also echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the challenges faced by companies in achieving 5G penetration due to the prevalence of 2G/3G-enabled smartphones in the country and the high costs of 5G phones.

With TCS and BSNL's collaboration, rural areas are set to benefit from improved connectivity and access to high-speed internet. This partnership signifies a step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that no one is left behind in India's journey towards digital transformation. As the demand for 4G services continues to rise, competition among telecom giants is expected to intensify, ultimately leading to better services and connectivity for consumers across the nation.
