Akshay Kumar, once considered one of Bollywood's most bankable stars, has faced a recent slump at the box office following the industry-wide downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While he has had a few notable successes, his films haven't been creating the same magic as before. However, fans are eagerly awaiting a new announcement on his birthday, September 9th, which could potentially mark a turning point in his career.

Reports suggest that the announcement could be for a new Priyadarshan film, reuniting the director-actor duo that delivered several hits in the past. Akshay Kumar had previously shared a cryptic post on September 7th, hinting at an upcoming announcement on the 9th. Leading media outlets have speculated that this could be for a Priyadarshan-directed horror-comedy, a genre that both are known for. According to Bollywood Hungama, the project has been in the works for a while, with both parties finally agreeing to collaborate after extensive discussions.

The film, reportedly a single-schedule production, is expected to begin filming this December and is slated for a 2025 release. Ekta Kapoor is said to be producing the project. If it materializes, this will be Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar's first collaboration in 14 years, their last outing being the 2010 film 'Khatta Meetha'. Reports also suggest that the film will be shot across various locations including Hyderabad, Kerala, Sri Lanka, and Gujarat. There are rumors that actresses Kiara Advani and Alia Bhatt might be considered for the female lead roles.
