'Pathaan' has been a blockbuster hit of 2023. The year had been a great year for King Khan as he replicated Pathaan's success with 'Jawan' mid-year and ended the year with 'Dunki' which earned him a lot of critical acclaim. It has been reported that Aditya Chopra has officially greenlit 'Pathaan 2,' solidifying it as the eighth installment in his meticulously crafted spy universe.

“This marks a significant twist in the YRF Spy Universe timeline - 'Pathaan 2' will precede 'Tiger vs Pathaan' and will set the stage for the epic clash of two cinematic legends on the big screen. Shah Rukh Khan's portrayal of Pathaan has deeply resonated with audiences, and there is a fervent demand to witness more of SRK in this spy role. Following the release of 'Pathaan' in January 2023, Adi and SRK made the decision to expand 'Pathaan' into a standalone franchise within the Spy Universe, with Adi promptly initiating the sequel to this blockbuster,” a source close to the project revealed.

Over the past year, Aditya Chopra and his team have meticulously crafted the script for 'Pathaan 2.' 'Pathaan 2' is envisioned as the flagship spy film of the universe, laying the groundwork for larger conflicts to unfold in the future. It will chart the course for the next phase of the YRF Spy Universe's timeline. In fact, 'Pathaan 2' will set the stage for the monumental showdown between Tiger and Pathaan ('Tiger vs Pathaan') in the future,” the source disclosed.

Discussions between Adi and SRK are underway to commence production on 'Pathaan 2' by December 2024. The film will join the ranks of the YRF Spy Universe, which includes 'Ek Tha Tiger,' 'Tiger Zinda Hai,' 'War,' 'Pathaan,' 'Tiger 3,' 'War 2,' and the yet-to-be-titled Alia Bhatt starrer. 'Pathaan' stands as the highest-grossing film within the YRF Spy Universe, amassing over Rs 540 crore in All India Nett Collections and crossing the Rs 1000 crore mark globally. It is hailed as a historic milestone in Hindi cinema, breaking numerous records and emerging as an all-time blockbuster.
