Arvind Kejriwal is an Indian politician. He was born on 16 August 1968 in Siwani, Haryana. He did his schooling from Campus School, Hisar, and Christian Missionary Holy Child School, Panipat, Haryana. He pursued his graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. His father, Gobind Ram Kejriwal was an electrical engineer, and his mother Gita Devi is a homemaker. 

He is married to Sunita Kejriwal. They are parents to a daughter, Harshita Kejriwal, and a son, Pulkit Kejriwal. 

His hobbies include reading books, meditating, and doing yoga.

Arvind Kejriwal earned his degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He also cleared the UPSC exam in his first attempt and got appointed as an IRS officer. 

During his college days, Arvind Kejriwal taught children living in slums. According to his family and friends, he was dedicated to social service from a very young age.  

In the year 2006, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for RTI Act. He donated the award money to fund an NGO. 

Arvind Kejriwal’s political journey

The same year, he resigned from his IRS position to work as a full-time social worker. 

He was a great supporter of Anna Hazare during the Jan Lokpal Bill movement in 2011. 

In the year 2012, he established the political party, Aam Aadmi Party. He is also the national convener of the party. 

In 2013, Arvind Kejriwal contested in the Delhi Assembly elections and won against Sheila Dixit by a significant margin.

Arvind Kejriwal was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on 28 December 2013. His first term lasted from 2013 to 2014.

In 2014, he contested in the Lok Sabha elections against Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency but was defeated by a margin of 3,70,000 votes. 

Since 2015, Arvind Kejriwal has been serving as the 7th and current Chief Minister of Delhi.
