A touching occurrence from Nagpur has captured the attention of the internet. A senior Nagpur traffic officer is being lauded on social media for going above and beyond the call of duty to assist an auto driver in paying a Rs 2,000 fine with money from his son's piggy bank.
The driver of the auto was identified as Rohit Khadse, who was penalised Rs 200 for parking in a no-parking zone. He had not paid his earlier challans, including one issued by Indora traffic zone on December 30 last year for driving his auto without uniform and licence. However, the pending fines added up to Rs 2,000. Because Khadse could not pay the fee, the officers confiscated and parked his auto at Civil Lines' Sitabuldi traffic zone office.
According to media reports, the driver pays Rs 6,000 monthly rent and is the only earning member in a family of four. Since his auto was confiscated by the police and losing the source of income left Khadse in a problematic situation. That's when his five-year-old son offered him to pay the fine using the money in his piggy bank, and Khadse informed that he broke the piggy bank and counted the coins, and it was around Rs 2,000.
Kadse then went to the police station to pay the fee and have his detained car back. The traffic officers, however, refused to take the fine in pennies. Later, he approached Ajay Malviya, a senior police inspector (traffic), with a plastic bag full of money. Khadse told Malviya the full tale when he questioned why he was paying the fine in pennies.
Malviya decided to pay the fine out of his pocket and give the child the money from the piggy bank. The officer instructed Khadse to follow traffic laws rigorously.
