Jake Sullivan's visit to India strengthens US-India ties through technology cooperation, amid diplomatic discussions on legal matters and regional security concerns.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's visit to New Delhi marks a significant step in strengthening ties between the United States and India, two of the world's oldest and largest democracies. The White House emphasized that Sullivan's trip aims to deepen the longstanding friendship between the two nations, fostering a safer and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

During his visit, Sullivan met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation across critical areas. A key initiative discussed was the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), which seeks to expand strategic collaboration in space technology, semiconductors, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology, and clean energy.

John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor, highlighted the importance of this partnership, emphasizing its potential to advance both countries' technological capabilities and economic opportunities. He underscored the shared commitment to addressing regional and global challenges through joint initiatives and diplomatic engagement.

However, the visit was shadowed by the extradition of Indian national Nikhil Gupta to the US, where he faces accusations related to a murder-for-hire plot against Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. Kirby refrained from commenting on specific cases, stating that Sullivan's primary focus remained on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for collaboration in emerging technologies.

Meanwhile, India has confirmed conducting a high-level inquiry into the evidence provided by the US regarding the alleged plot, demonstrating a commitment to addressing legal matters through diplomatic channels while maintaining bilateral dialogue.

Sullivan's discussions in New Delhi underscored the mutual interest in leveraging technological innovation to bolster security and economic prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. The outcome of these deliberations is expected to further solidify the strategic partnership between the United States and India, reinforcing their role as key allies in the region and beyond.
