According to the study, CPI-M had carried out 53% of the total attacks in India only in 2017.

New Delhi: A US department study on Thursday announced that India is the third biggest country to be hit by terrorist activity across the world after countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. The data also revealed that Communist Party of India Maoists (CPI-M) is the fourth deadliest terror group following the Islamic State, Taliban and Al-Sabaab. According to the study, CPI-M had carried out 53 % on the total attacks in India only in 2017.

Pakistan was the third country hit by terror attacks until 2015. Jammu and Kashmir have seen a total of 24% increase in terror attacks in 2017, according to the national consortium for the study of terrorism and responses to terrorism.

The US Department of State contacted the consortium. It also said that there was 88% increase in the number of people killed in the attacks that took place, according to the media.

The study also said that out of 860 attacks across the country in 2017, 25% were reported from Jammu and Kashmir alone. An official told the Times Of India, “Here in India, most of the terror activities are either sponsored or are emanating from the soil of Pakistan and its agencies. On the other hand, Pakistan is now facing the attacks from terror groups it harboured and raised for decades.”

The study said, “The frequency of terrorist violence by Maoist extremists in India declined between 2016 and 2017 with respect to the number of attacks (from 338 in 2016 to 295 in 2017); however, the number of people killed increased 16%, and the number of people injured increased 50%.”
