India and Pakistan are taking part in the 42nd session of United Nations Human Rights Council. Here is how Pakistan is being cornered in Kashmir issue by the international community.
New Delhi: Representatives of both India and Pakistan are currently taking part at the 42nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session that has begun today (September 9) in Geneva. Kashmir issue is being discussed and here is how India is prepared to face the UNHRC whereas Pakistan is not enjoying the support of most of the member countries in the Kashmir issue.
In the session that is on till September 13, India's delegation will be led by India's ambassador to the United Nations, Rajiv Kumar Chander and Ajay Bisaria, former Indian envoy to Pakistan.
Whereas, Pakistan will be represented by its foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The issue of human rights in Kashmir has become a matter of discussion after India abrogated Articles 370 and 35A and declared Kashmir and Ladakh as union territories. This has raised a question on Pakistan's claim on a part of Kashmir called Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Both the countries have blamed each other for causing human rights violations. Currently, India enjoys the support of countries including the US, UK, France and Russia on the issue. Most countries have said that it is a bilateral issue.
However, India has got in touch with all 47 member countries and have spoken about the matter and is expecting support from most of them.
However, on the other hand, no country has openly supported Pakistan on the matter. This has triggered #PakCorneredOnKashmir.
Biggest setback to Pakistan is the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC)has not openly supported it.
Even China has termed that it should be a bilateral discussion between India and Pakistan.
India has been maintaining that Kashmir is a bilateral issue, but Pakistan has been trying hard to gather international support on the same and build pressure on India.
With many countries terming Kashmir issue as bilateral, it is indeed a setback for Pakistan and looks like Pakistan has been cornered by the international community on the issue.
