Beauty pageant contestant and influencer Rumy Alqahtani revealed on her Instagram account on Monday that she will be competing in one of the world's most prestigious pageants for the first time as a representative of the Saudi Arabia.

It is a momentous occasion for the Islamic nation because Saudi Arabia will compete in the Miss Universe competition for the first time.
Beauty pageant veteran and influencer Rumy Alqahtani revealed on Monday on her Instagram account that she will be competing in one of the world's most prestigious pageants as the kingdom's representative.

Alqahtani's entry is comparable to that of Lujane Yacoub of Bahrain, who made history as the first woman from the Gulf to represent her country in the Miss Universe competition last year.

The Khaleej Times claims that Alqahtani, who was born in Riyadh, is accustomed to the limelight. She has participated in multiple international pageants, the most recent being Miss and Mrs. Global Asian, which was held a few weeks ago in Malaysia.

In addition to being named Miss Saudi Arabia, she also received the titles of Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), Miss Arab World Peace 2021, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia).

Saudi Arabia's recent reforms:
Saudi Arabia has been shedding its conservative garb under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and this is another move in that direction.

Saudi Arabia, which has historically been associated with conservatism, is currently seeing a change in direction under the direction of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a 38-year-old 'Call of Duty' player.
Nevertheless, these strict rules have loosened in recent months.

Global attention has been drawn to this change, especially as women are no longer restricted and can now drive, go to events with mixed-gender crowds, and apply for passports without the need for male guardianship.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia, a country renowned for its severe alcohol prohibition laws, has consented to let non-Muslim ambassadors buy alcohol.
