Kentucky: A man and a woman were gunned down at a Kroger grocery store on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky by a man, who then proceeded to exchange fire with an armed bystander before fleeing the scene.
According to Jeffersontown Police Chief Sam Rogers, the suspect was nabbed but did not disclose any information about his identity or motive.
Meanwhile, it was reported that both the victims died at the store.
Rogers said that the police received a call about 3 pm (local time) reporting the shooting and immediately rushed to the spot. The suspect fired multiple rounds at the man inside the store and shot the female victim multiple times out in the parking lot.
Though a citizen armed with a gun engaged the shooter in the parking lot, the suspect managed to flee. He was later captured on a nearby road.
Eric Deacon, who identified himself as an EMT, told The Associated Press that he was in the self-checkout lane of the store when he heard the first shot, in the pharmacy. He said a man came around the corner and "the look on his face, he looked like he just didn't care."
Deacon also said that the gunman appeared to be shooting at the suspect, trying to get him out of the store. When Deacon went outside, he saw a woman was hit and tried to help her.
"She was gone, there's nothing I could do…I think she just got caught in the crossfire,” said Deacon.
The store will remain closed until the investigation is complete, said the store authority in a release.
