Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley, the double agent who was also a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative, has been reportedly attacked inside the Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Centre. Headley has been in this prison after being convicted in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2016.

Headley received some grievous injuries in the attack that took place on July 8. He was rushed to the critical care unit and his condition remains critical.

Headley was attacked by two inmates, who were admitted for assaulting policemen, as he had been a double agent working with Pakistan and Islamist terror elements, according to reports.

The Indian investigation agencies have held for long that Headley alias Daood Sayed Gilani is a double agent of American Central Intelligence Agency who sneaked into the LeT. When the US refused to hand him over to India, it lent credence to the theory, as the Americans must have been apprehensive of leakage of sensitive information. The National Investigation Agency was, however, granted access to the terrorist for interrogation.

Journalist Gerald Posner based in the US wrote, "In a post-9/11 world of high security, Headley somehow managed to move with apparent ease in and out of Pakistan. A convicted felon of Pakistani descent, making frequent trips back and forth to the US (there were apparently at least four in one year), would have been monitored by US tracking agencies."

Following today's attack on Headley in the Chicago prison, Indian agencies believe efforts are afoot to wipe out all evidence of the terrorist's truck with the CIA, said a source.
