Significant progress in China-India relation this year: Chinese ambassador

Beijing: There has been a significant progress in the relation between India and China this year and both the countries should work together to make the world a better place, Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui said here Friday.

He was speaking at a programme in the Chinese embassy here to mark the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

"This year we have seen significant progress in China-India relations. The Wuhan Summit this year, opened a new chapter in our relations. Both sides have been working very hard to translate Wuhan Consensus into action," Luo said.

He said, "Both the countries should work together to make the world a better place. It is important to implement the consensus of leaders and transmit their personal friendship down to the people." 

In his address, Luo noted that since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the country has made tremendous progress both in economic and social development.

"This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chinese reform and opening up, which started in 1978 We have lifted over 700 million people out of poverty over the past 40 years, he said.

He said China is expected to spend trillions in goods import and overseas investments, which will offer great market opportunities for all countries in the world, including India.

Minister of state for external affairs VK Singh was a guest at the event.
