An incident of abduction and forced conversion of a minor girl belonging to the Christian community to Islam in Pakistan has come to light. The minor girl was later forced to marry her captor Abdul Jabbar

Karachi: A 14-year-old Christian girl from Karachi was kidnapped, forced to convert to Islam and later coerced into marrying her captor Abdul Jabbar, in Pakistan.

According to reports, the minor girl was kidnapped on October 10 by three men and was taken to Dera Ghazi Khan, a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan, about 600km from her home.

Initially, law enforcement officials rejected the numerous attempts made by the girl's parents to file a missing persons complaint. However, after their persistent efforts, police lodged a complaint on October 12.

However, this is not the first time that such an incident has come to light.

In September 2019, a 15-year-old Christian student was allegedly forced to convert to Islam by her schoolteacher in Punjab province.

The minor girl, who is studying in a government school in Sheikhupura town, was taken to a madrassa by her school principal where the alleged forced religious conversion took place.

According to Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat, the girl's family was also forced to convert to Islam. The teacher, who taught Arabic to the girl in school, told her that she could not go back home as she was then a Muslim.

In Pakistan, many such incidents of Hindu, Sikh and Christian girls being converted to Islam and married off to Muslim men have been reported.
