Chikkamagaluru: The Karnataka state forest officials rescued a pangolin from four people, who had captured it and planned to sell it for Rs 40 lakh.
Mohan, Rajshekhar, Mallesh and Ganesh, the four accused, were arrested by the Chikkamagaluru zone range forest officer Shilpa and her team. Upon receiving information, Shilpa and her team rushed to the spot in Chikkamagaluru and arrested the culprits.
The team also seized a bike and a car which was used to capture the pangolin. Poaching of pangolin has pushed them closer to extinction. Several pangolins are being hunted in Africa, raising fears that they are being forced to extinction. The pangolin is the world's most trafficked and poached mammal, because of the demand for its meat and scales.
