Kolkata: According to Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, there are 1,140 countries in the world.
Yes, you heard it right. Recently, while praising a government programme called 'Kanyashree', the TMC chief invented 945 countries.
"Out of 1,140 countries, the scheme has found its place in 5 countries. It shows Bengal is marching ahead,” Banerjee was heard saying.
However, the fact is that there are only 195 countries in the world.
Kanyashree, which was launched in 2013, is a Bengal government scheme aimed at empowering women. Banerjee also added that over two crore girls were benefitting from it.
Unfortunately, to prove her point: How popular her pet project is, Banerjee just created 945 countries out of the blue.
If this will woo voter in Bengal only time will tell, but we have to give credit to her power of imagination.
