Karwar: Karnataka’s Ganapathi Shambhu Salunke, the 101-year-old man from Majewada in Asnoti in Karwar has become a model for first-time voters in the state. Ganapathi has never missed a chance to cast his vote since 1952.
He had earlier worked as an assistant sub-inspector of police in the then Mysore state and also worked in other places in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada.
Speaking to reporters, the centenarian said back in those days, the number of educated people was less but the people believed in democracy. Presently, Indian citizens are running away from their responsibilities as they believe they are educated, he opined.
With just a day left for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, the centenarian urged the first-time voters to cast their vote on April 18 as a true Indian citizen and stand united.
