BJP state president was made to step down as chief minister within three days of taking oath in May 2018 as he could not prove majority. On May 25, just two days after Congress made an alliance with the JD(S) and they formed the coalition government, Yeddyurappa had said, that father-son duo (Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy) will destroy Congress. Accordingly, for the first time in the history of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, Congress secured the lowest number of (1) seats in the state after fighting the election based on the seat-sharing agreement with the JD(S).
