Tamil Nadu: Ponnamaravathi turns violent following casteist remarks in audio clip

The release of an audio recording of two men from a dominant community speaking ill of women of another caste has led to communal tension in Ponnamaravathi in Tamil Nadu. One of the men is heard saying that women from the other community will even sleep with them for money so, getting them to vote is not a problem at all. This has made the other community angry and they have registered a complaint with the police in this regard. But when police allegedly did not act on the complaint, they started staging violent protests, damaging public property. Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation. Many who pelted stones at cops, injuring them, alleged that police were targeting them instead of taking action against the two men who are heard in the audio clip.
