Bengaluru: Fishermen in Tamil Nadu recount memories when they have been rescued by former external affairs minister late Sushma Swaraj when in troubled waters.
Sushma had been one of the few parliamentarians who fought for the fisherfolk and ensured that those captured in neighbouring countries were brought back to India as soon as possible.
Tamil Nadu fishermen recount the time when they knocked on her door seeking help and were welcomed with warmth and love.
DMK MP Siva had brought in families of fisherfolk to Sushma’s residence seeking the release of 29 fishermen from Sri Lanka.
Another instance was that of a Bahrain based fishing company that had captured Indian fishermen on the waters of Iran. It was none other than Sushma who had intervened in the release.
Sushma passed away on Tuesday (August 6) at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) due to a cardiac arrest.
