The sixth Prime Minister of India who served in the position from 1984 to 1989, Rajiv Gandhi, was born on August 20, 1944. The Congress observes the day as Sadbhavana diwas. This day is observed by the party to promote national integration, peace, affection, communal harmony among Indians. Senior Congress leaders paid tribute to the former Prime Minister today. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi took over the reins of prime ministership and is known for his contribution in the field of education and telecommunication among others.
