Punjab: Wife kills husband by setting him on fire in Amritsar

Amritsar: Rakesh Kumar alias Rocky was allegedly killed by his wife and in-laws at Rani Ka Bagh in Punjab’s Amritsar by setting him ablaze. Rakesh and Pooja Sharma were married 13 years ago. But they had frequent quarrels and recently for Raksha Bandhan festival she had gone to her parents’ house in Amritsar but did not return. Rakesh's father Kherati Lal along with son Rakesh went to Pooja's house on August 26 to get her home. But instead, her family started arguing and physically assaulting Rakesh and Kherati. In a fit of rage, Pooja, her brother Manoj Kumar and parents Savitha Sharma and Raghav set Rakesh on fire. When Kherati started shouting, Rakesh ran out of the house and fire was doused by neighbours. He was rushed to Civil Hospital and was then referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and was later taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to burn injuries. The police have booked Pooja, Raghav, Manoj and Savitha under IPC sections 302 and 34. They are absconding.
