Bengaluru: Nipah alert has been raised in Karnataka. The director of National Health Mission Karnataka (NHMK) has issued advisory to all the districts in the state. It provides instructions regarding the steps that need to be taken to restrict the virus from entering Karnataka.

District hospitals have been advised to keep two beds in isolation to treat Nipah infection cases. Directives have been issued to the districts mentioning the dos and don’ts during the time. Information Education Communication (IEC) has been created and circulated in Karnataka districts.

The surveillance has been strengthened everywhere in the state, especially the coastal districts – Chamrajnagar, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

All these measures have been taken after the recent outbreak of Nipah virus in Kerala. Precautions for Nipah virus were taken at the state and district-levels in Karnataka even last year.
