Thiruvananthapuram: With just a week remaining for reopening of schools in the state, Kerala Police chief Lokanath Behera has issued guidelines to ensure safety of school students. He has instructed district police chiefs to initiate precautionary measures for children’s safety. The standard operating procedure for ensuring safety for students prepared by the Kerala Police is available in the state police website.
As an initial step, the station house officers are directed to take strict action against those private vehicles or school buses arranged by parents which do not follow the law. The police will take action against those vehicles which carry more than the permitted number of passengers in a vehicle. They will act jointly with the Motor Vehicles Department to cancel the permit of vehicle. Regular patrolling and monitoring will be initiated to check for drunk driving, the DGP said.
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has made it mandatory for school buses to have GPS devices installed. The ongoing inspection of buses will end on May 29. More than 50 buses have been inspected as of now by MVD officials.
