Kochi: The Kerala high court on February 26 stayed the government decision on government employees to get paid leave for the January nationwide strike. The division bench that included the chief justice said that the order sent a wrong message to the society.

The Public Administration had issued an order on January 31, allowing salary and casual leave for those who had taken part in the general strike.

The court allowed a stay on order in response to a petition filed by Alappuzha Kalarcode native G Balagopalan. The court also said the government employees would have to give an application in advance for leaves and to allow leaves without that is a wrong step.

The court also instructed the government to give an explanation in this matter.  On January 8 and 9, trade unions all over India went on a nationwide strike against the anti-worker policies of the Central government.
