Kerala girl set ablaze by spurned lover; second incident in two months

Thrissur: A 22-year-old girl, who was set ablaze in Thrissur, Kerala, by a youth for allegedly rejecting his marriage proposal, has succumbed to injuries. The victim is identified as Neethu, a native of Chiyaram. The accused, a native of Vadakkekadu, was handed over to the police by the locals when he tried to escape.

The accused Nitish was reportedly upset with the girl for rejecting his love proposal. He visited her house, poured petrol on the girl and set her on fire. Even though Neethu's relatives tried to rescue her, she could not be saved. 

Similarly, On March 12, a Thiruvalla girl was set ablaze by Mathew when she was standing at the bus stop. The accused came to the bus stop and poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. The locals rushed to her rescue and took her to the hospital but she succumbed to death.
