Karwar: Giridhar and Sujatha, siblings from an impoverished family, have been ploughing their half-acre land for 15 years. They have not been able to afford power tillers or mechanical ploughing equipment.
Though manual ploughing takes a toll on Giridhar, who is suffering from arthritis, the 30-year-old along with his 25-year-old sister are relentless in their efforts to provide for their livelihood.
After their father's demise 20 years ago, the siblings decided to plough the land themselves and grow vegetables to make ends meet and look after their mother. The near-penury family also struggled for years before buying a pushcart.
