Mysuru: A 35-year-old Dalit man in Karnataka was stripped and beaten up by the residents of a village in Gundlupet near Mysuru suspecting him to be a thief. After the unfortunate incident, the man is under shock and receiving treatment in a hospital. The victim is identified as S Prathap of Shyanadrahalli village. He was to write the civil services preliminary examination in Mysuru but could not as reached the venue late.
Later, he was robbed, assaulted on the road while returning home on his bike in the evening. That night, the injured Prathap took shelter in a temple in Kebbekatte. In the morning, the priest who saw Prathap, mistook him to be a thief and informed the villagers. They gathered there, stripped him, tied him to a pole and assaulted him. Then they paraded him naked in the village. The incident was recorded on a mobile phone and circulated among the villagers. Now, the video has gone viral on social media. Hurt mentally and physically from the incident, Prathap is currently not even in a position to talk. His relatives have filed a complaint at the Gundlupet police station.
