The new amendment to the Citizenship Act of 1955, which aims to provide Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, has sparked protest in Assam’s Brahmaputra valley.
