Kollam: 31 days after her death, a 75-year-old Kerala woman was finally laid to rest. Kollam native Annamma passed away on May 14 due to old age. However, she could not be buried as the Kerala high court ordered the closure of the cemetery until its proper modernisation. And the family, as per Annamma's wishes, wanted her to be buried only in this grave particularly.
The cemetery which was built in 1999 caused pollution of nearby wells, sources said that this is due to lack of maintenance, carelessness in securing the grave sites and improper construction of tombstones.
On June 13, after proper modernisation and the side walls of the grave where Annamma's body would be laid to rest were freshly concreted, the funeral of Annamma took place. The final rites were conducted in the presence of the bishop of the Mar Thoma Church and the parish vicar of the Thuruthikkara Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Kottayam.
