Saharanpur is one of the eight Lok Sabha seats that go to poll on Thursday in the first phase of 2019 general elections. The contest is tripartite, between BJP, SP-BSP Mahagathbandhan and the Congress. The seat has five assembly segments under it, including the Muslim-dominated Deoband. Sitting BJP MLA Brijesh Singh had wrested this seat against demographic odds in 2017 and he believes the Congress and the BSP-SP combine are contesting for the second and the third positions and that the saffron party would better its margin of victory even more than last time in 2014.
