Over the last five years, India has traveled a long way in bridging the gender gap, especially in economic activities and financial transactions. As per the data from the Income Tax Department, the rate of growth in the number of women PAN i.e. Permanent Account Number holders is greater than the rate of growth for men.

By the end of the last financial year 31.3 million women became new PAN card holders. This was an incredible increase of over 240% from the last year, which added 9.2 million women to the list.

The shift in government policies towards girl education and helping women become financially independent has played a huge role in this. Bringing women into the economic mainstream has indeed been a top priority with the present government, ensuring that the society is more open to including women in the workforce.
