Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Pune, inundating various areas and causing distress to residents. Within a short span of fewer than five hours, Pune experienced a relentless downpour measuring 101.7 mm, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Amidst the deluge, a woman found herself stranded in floodwaters while driving through the city. A video capturing her plight circulated on social media.

The footage showed a part of Pune submerged in knee-high water due to the continuous rainfall. The woman was seen struggling to exit her car through the window as water surrounded her vehicle. Fortunately, Pune municipal traffic officials, clad in yellow raincoats, came to her rescue.

The accompanying text on the social media post highlighted the woman's ordeal in Viman Nagar and praised the prompt response of PuneCityTraffic personnel who rescued her. The video garnered significant attention, with over 56,000 views and numerous critical comments from viewers.

Commenters expressed frustration at the situation, questioning the efficacy of tax payments given the city's inadequate infrastructure. Some took a sarcastic tone, likening Pune to Venice during the rainy season and joking about the need for inflatable boats.

Pre-monsoon rains on June 8 exacerbated the situation, causing traffic congestion and uprooting trees in fifteen locations across the city. Flooded roads and waterlogging further compounded travel woes for Pune residents.

The IMD had earlier forecasted overcast weather with intermittent rain from June 8–11, with heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted for June 13. Despite the delay in the onset of monsoon, Pune experienced heavy rainfall, leading to unfortunate incidents like the collapse of a tree on a man in the Upper Ota neighborhood, as reported by The Indian Express.
