In Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, locals are celebrating improved rainfall by treating donkeys to gulab jamuns after a unique ritual to attract rain, as reported by Local18.

In a remarkable display of local traditions, the residents of Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, have captured attention with a unique ritual involving donkeys and the popular Indian sweet, gulab jamun. According to Local18, the Navi people of Mandsaur are celebrating the recent change in their climate by treating donkeys to this delectable dessert.

The region, known for its distinctive customs, has been facing a challenging monsoon season compared to other parts of India. While many states are drenched in relentless rainfall, Mandsaur’s weather has been relatively dry. To counter this, locals devised an unusual yet heartfelt method to invoke the rains: making donkeys plough a crematorium and then sowing salt in the area. This ritual, deeply rooted in their beliefs, is thought to attract much-needed precipitation.

Residents of Mandsaur were reported to have promised that if their ritual successfully brought rain to their region, they would reward the donkeys with gulab jamuns. This sweet reward, they believe, symbolizes gratitude and celebration for the anticipated change in weather. In recent days, their efforts seem to have borne fruit, with heavy downpours starting to hit the district, and the meteorological department predicting continued rainfall in the surrounding areas.

To mark the success of their ritual, locals have been seen feeding gulab jamuns to the very donkeys that participated in the ceremony. A video of this charming celebration has gone viral, showcasing the donkeys enjoying their treat from a large steel plate. The footage highlights the deep connection between the community’s traditions and their environmental practices.

With meteorological forecasts indicating more rain across Madhya Pradesh, especially in the eastern and western regions, the people of Mandsaur are embracing their cultural rituals with renewed hope and joy. The ritual not only reflects their unique approach to weather but also showcases the endearing ways in which local communities celebrate and express their beliefs.
