Cheraman Juma Masjid: Visit India’s First Mosque to Celebrate Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha will begin on the evening of June 16 and end on the evening of June 17. There are popular mosques in India that boast of rich history. World’s second oldest mosque

It is claimed that Malik Bin Dinar built India’s first mosque, known as Cheraman Juma Masjid, in 629 AD, in Thrissur, Kerala. Cheram Perumal, the ruler of Kodungallur, embraced Islam and visited Mecca. The mosque in Kerala was constructed on his advice. 

Cheraman Juma Masjid is adorned with intricate carvings and beautiful pond. It is believed that the marble used in the construction of the mosque was brought from Mecca. A thousand-year-old lamp in Cheraman Juma is always lit inside and is maintained by people of all religions. 

India’s first mosque

It is believed that the old mosque was initially built with wood. After the renovation of the mosque, it was rebuilt with marble from Mecca. For this year’s Eid celebrations, do make plans to explore this historical mosque in Kerala.
