The runs saved by Dhawan in the third T20I against West Indies at Chennai were to prove crucial in the end as India just about got home
Chennai: The third T20I between India and West Indies at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Sunday saw Shikhar Dhawan transforming into the spandex-clad superhero, Superman.
With India missing their star fielders — Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja — in this match, but Dhawan rose to the occasion.
The Windies batsmen had started strongly, with Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed and Bhuvneshwar Kumar being taken for runs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to bring Krunal Pandya on to bowl in the sixth over, but the finger-spinner was carted for a six by Shai Hope.

Hope went after Krunal on the next delivery too, but Dhawan at deep mid-wicket leapt and plucked the ball out of thin air, but had to flick it back into play as he was too close to the boundary ropes and the momentum of his body after completing the catch would have taken him over the ropes. He couldn't recover to take the catch on the second attempt, but what still mattered was that he saved five precious runs for the side.
This was to prove crucial in the end as India just about got over the line in the end, winning on the last ball of the match.
