Virat Kohli requests BCCI to change rule on wives accompanying players on overseas tours

New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow the players’ wives to accompany them for the full term of an overseas tour instead of the existing two-week period.

“The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka (Sharma) has been travelling with Kohli overseas. However, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team,” a source was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Kohli’s wife Anushka was in England with him for the full duration of the tour where India played limited-overs and Test matches. However, she was subjected to trolls after she was spotted in the official team picture during the players’ visit to the Indian High Commission in London.

The BCCI defended Anushka being at the High Commission and said it was not a breach of any protocol.

“This is the norm wherever the team travels. The High Commission invites the players with their relatives and it is eventually the decision of the individuals. Even in London, the players were invited along with their partners. There has been no breach of any protocol,” a BCCI official had told Hindustan Times.
