The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2018 on September 1.

Mumbai: There is no rest for team India captain Virat Kohli as he has to direct his focus onto the upcoming Asia Cup tournament to be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 15.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2018 on September 1.

PTI reported that Virat Kohli had issues with his back but will not opt out of the upcoming tournament despite the two and half month tour of UK. Another six Test matches are lined up in the next three months.

In the run-up to the 2019 World Cup, the two slots after Kohli's is now the bone of contention.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will probably be the openers for India and KL Rahul will be a back-up.

The selectors will look to fill the middle order with players such as Manish Pandey, Kedar Jhadav, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik and even Rishab Pant.

The selectors may also have difficulty in accommodating Mayank Agarwal.

The Karnataka player has scored a lot of runs for the state as well as for India A, making it difficult for the selectors to ignore him.

Rishab Pant has also been in brilliant form and can be used as a replacement for Mahendra Singh Dhoni if required as a wicket-keeper-batsman.
