London: Fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya allegedly wanted to meet Virat Kohli and the Indian team in England. However, Mallya’s requests to meet the Indian captain and his team was denied by the central government.
Mallya has been on the run since 2016 after he failed to pay back Rs 9,000 crores he owed to several banks in India. He currently resides in London, England and is on the verge of being extradited. London Court has asked India to show the pictures of Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, where Mallya is expected to be imprisoned.
Vijay Mallya was the Chairman of United Breweries Group and also the ex-Chairman of United Spirits and the owner of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines.
Virat Kohli has been a part of the Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team that Mallya owned.
Mallya approached the London Court against being extradited to India, claiming that the conditions of Indian jails are inhumane. This prompted the London court to rquest for pictures and videos of the facilities and other details of barrack number 12 in Arthur Road Jail where authorities plan to imprison him.
