Sydney: India captain Virat Kohli has become the fastest batsman to reach 19,000 international runs, achieving the feat in his 399th innings during the first day of the fourth Test against Australia on Thursday.

Kohli surpassed former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached the feat in 432 innings.

Kohli had become the fastest to reach 18,000 international runs (382 innings) in September last year.

Kohli has been India's best batsman this year. He was the highest run-getter in away series against South Africa and England.

The skipper was also superb at home against West Indies and smashed several records. Now against Australia, he will be eyeing some more.

The 30-year-old Indian skipper was the highest run-scorer in 2018 in both Tests and ODIs.

Kohli already holds the record for being the fastest batsman to 15,000, 16,000, 17,000 and 18,000 international runs. Now he joined the 19,000 club.

With India leading the four-match Test series against Australia 2-1, Kohli is likely to become the first Indian skipper to beat the Aussies in their own home in a Test series.
