Farokh Engineer held the previous record of 89, which he had achieved in Australia in 1967. Pant erased Engineer’s mark with a superb century.
The 21-year-old has now slammed two Test hundreds outside India. His previous three-figure mark, his maiden Test ton, came against England at The Oval in London in September last year.
With the century in Sydney, Pant also overtook Kohli’s tally of 282 runs in the four-Test series. He’s now the second highest run-getter behind Cheteshwar Pujara (521), who was earlier dismissed for a magnificent 193.

Pant made his Test debut in England in August last year and he is now playing in his ninth Test.
Thanks to Pant’s ton and Pujara’s 193, India crossed the 550-run mark.
