Sydney: Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni finally reached a major milestone which he and his fans had long been waiting for.

Dhoni has completed 10,000 runs in ODIs for India. He achieved the feat during the first of the three-match series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

The wicketkeeper-batsman had already completed 10,000 runs in ODIs before the Sydney ODI. He had represented Asia XI in three ODIs and scored runs for them including a century, against Africa XI in June 2007. However, he needed only one run to touch the milestone while representing India.

In Sydney, Dhoni arrived at the crease earlier than expected as India were reduced to 4/3 in 3.5 overs while chasing 289. Shikhar Dhawan was out for a golden duck and captain Virat Kohli followed him after scoring just three. Soon, Ambati Rayudu too was dismissed, for a two-ball duck.

Dhoni has become the fifth player to complete 10,000 ODI runs for India. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Kohli are the other four. Recently, Kohli made a record of becoming the fastest in the world to the milestone.
